One rupee railway clinics come to rescue of injured protesters and railway police

Violent scenes were witnessed between railway police and protesting apprentices when the protesters resorted to stone pelting and the police had to resort to lathi charge. Around 12 people were injured as a result. However, what came to the injured's rescue was the novel one rupee clinic which has an emergency medical room and a pharmacy inside.

The 200-sq.feet odd emergency medical room (EMR) on platform 6 at Dadar station on Central Railway (CR) is where all of them received primary medical aid.

"There were total 12 people who were brought to the EMR with injuries which included 9 police personnel," said Dr Rahul Ghule, Magicdil that operates this EMR.

There were als three women police personnel who were injured in the melee. Sources said that these injured people were brought between 9am-10am. The police and protesters sustained injuries on their skull, forehead, ear and blunt injuries to their limbs as well. Sources said that one of the police personnel suffered concussion and needed stitches on his head and so was sent to the Sion hospital.

The low cost clinic is now a common feature on many railway stations in the city. Currently there are 15 EMRs functional on CR and 5 more are expected to start soon. Currently, the CR is constructing such rooms at the Sion, Vikroli, Panvel, Kalwa, Ulhasnagar, Bhandup and Diva railway stations.
