Not everyone can be John Abraham and pull off a Dhoom, 24 Mumbai youngsters had to learn this lesson a hard way.

In the wee hours of Sunday, 24 bikers were caught for rash driving at Kamraj Nagar on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH). Ghatkopar Pant Nagar police had conducted a nakabandi to catch hold of rash and negligent drivers on Sunday, as these bikers had become a cause of concern to the residents.

Of 24 people nabbed, one woman was also detained, they have all be reported to be in their mid 20’s.

Prafull Phadke, Senior police inspector, Pant Nagar police station, said, “There were regular complaints from residents residing around of bikers becoming a menace during the night. Hence, a nakabandi was conducted."

Explaining their tactics to run away from law, Phadke added, "When our policemen tried to stop them a few of them started heading in another direction causing a risk to their and others lives as well.”

The maximum speed limit on highways is 80 KMPH, and the police are trying to verify the speed limit at which these youngsters were riding. Though they have been released on bail, their bikes have been seized. Phadke also added that they will be writing to Regional Transport Offices (RTO) to check if modifications were made to the bikes.

Interroggation revealed that those arrested were inspired by the western bike racing culture and used to get in touch with bikers from other countries through a WhatsApp group.

These youngsters have been booked under sections 279 (rash or negligent driving endangering human life) and 336 (Endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code and have been charged for rash driving under the Motor Vehicle Act.
