The war of words between the BJP and Shiv Sena is likely to continue till the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections get over. The latest attack has come from BJP chief spokesperson Madhav Bhandari, who has responded to Sena MP Sanjay Raut's criticism and dared the party to quit both governments instead of slamming them repeatedly.

The June 15 issue of BJP state unit mouthpiece, a Marathi fortnightly titled Manogat ('Mann Ki Baat'), has published an article penned by Bhandari, who is also the fortnightly's advisor. BJP spokesperson advocate Ganesh Haake is the editor.

Raut, who is also editor of Sena mouthpiece Saamna, had criticised the government, saying it was as if being under the Nizam's rule, 10 days back during a public rally in Aurangabad while addressing Shiv Sainiks. Referring to the same, Bhandari reminded Raut of BJP's sacrifices made for the late Bal Thackeray, who had requested that the assembly seats of Shivaji Nagar in Pune and Guhagar in Ratnagiri, and Lok Sabha seats of Ratnagiri, Thane and Nashik be left for the Sena.

Bhandari also reminded the Sena that despite contesting on its own, the BJP has increased its seats during the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation elections as well as in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, while Sena's strength has reduced in Aurangabad.

He also said that both Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Raut are well aware that if they quit the government, they would be isolated and no MLA would remain with them, and, hence, they were continuing to be a part of the government, yet not stopping the criticism.

Uddhav had earlier said that the Sena was not averse to an alliance with the BJP but would not beg for the same. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, on the other hand, had interpreted his statement as opening the doors for a possible alliance during the local body elections.
