Life has returned to normal after the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other legal bodies wrapped up rescue operations at the Dombivli blast site on Saturday. The residents, who are hoping for compensation for the damages caused to their buildings, say that all political parties made promises but nothing has been followed up.

After the rescue operations of the Gandhinagar MIDC boiler blast wound up on May 28, the local politicians made good use of the misery of those who were affected by the incident. "Politicians from all parties came to us and told us that they will help us get compensation for all the damages," said Chaya Pagare, a resident of Jayashri Nivas. She further said that these people visited their homes and wrote down Rs200-500 as damages. "Looks like till the incident was fresh, all ministers came here to make announcements, but now nobody is taking our claims seriously," added Pagare.

However, nobody has approached them after the survey. "There was a review process done by the Kalyan Tehsildar office. They visited my house today, made a note of all the damages and said that they will try getting the compensation," said Akshay Yande from Balaji Darshan, Dombivli, MIDC, phase II.

Another resident said that some political parties had even set up independent survey booths to note the damage claims of the residents. "They had their own photo-copied forms, although we are not sure if they were from the Tehsildar office," he added.

When dna contacted BJP corporator Mahesh Patil from the area, he said that they assisted the Tehsildar office for the survey. "We were with the team and the survey is still on. Once it is completed, we will make a claim for compensation from the government. I can't say how soon these people will get the amount, but I can say that they will," said Patil.

Kalyan Tehsildar Kiran Suravase was unavailable for comments.
