Motorists travelling to Kalyan, Dombivli and Ambarnath will soon be able to bypass four traffic junctions along Shil phata-Mahape Road in Navi Mumbai by zipping through a new flyover which will be ready in a month's time.

"The Mahape Junction flyover is a vital link between Mumbra-Panvel and Thane-Belapur roads, and is expected to be completed soon. It will also ensure seamless traffic from south Mumbai to Kalyan, Dombivali and Ambarnath regions," said Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director of public relations, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The 1.12 km flyover, with two lanes on either direction of the road, will cross four junctions at Mahape. It will pass over major traffic junctions of Mahape, Guru Gobind Singh and Millennium Business Park. The structure, built on a budget of Rs 50 crore, has been constructed with 6-metre cantilever precast and pre-stressed girders on either side of a single pillar.

The development authority also plans to construct a vehicular underpass at Mahape Junction, which will run parallel to Thane-Belapur Road.

MMRDA's focus on improving road connectivity in Navi Mumbai has increased in the last 5 years as it wants to develop the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Infrastructural growth in the area has been rapid with population increasing manifold in the past decade.
