The rise in cases of child sexual abuse (CSA) has prompted the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to invite suggestions from stakeholders like children, parents, school administration, law enforcement, NGOs and civil society on the prevention of such crimes.

The circular uploaded to NCPCR's website states that the Parliament has already introduced a comprehensive Act namely The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 to punish those who commit sexual offences against children.

However, the body has felt a pressing need to formulate a broad-based strategy. The stakeholders have been requested to send their suggestions to the commission at their mail address. The letter is from NCPCR chairperson Stuti Kacker who has also mentioned her own email address to receive the suggestions.

Anubha Sahai, President, India Wide Parents Association, said, "The government must introduce strict provisions for such offences. The child rights commission should take cognizance if the police fails to register an FIR within 48 hours. Stakeholders like NGOs, parents associations, reporters should be members in the commission. Concerned managements should also be held accountable for not taking steps to ensure a child's security."

The NCPCR also introduced a POCSO e-box on their website in August 2016 which has received several complaints from children.
