The day finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar missed to mention any provisions for development of Bal Thackeray memorial in the Budget, the same day the Shiv Sena-run Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to name Middle Vaitarna Reservoir in the late leader's memory. The naming proposal was tabled in BMC's general body meeting and was approved unanimously.

NCP leader Jitendra Awhad said the BJP government has deliberately forgotten the memorial, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Balasaheb Thackeray. "It shows their fake love for our icons. Interestingly, the BJP remembered works of Lokmanya Tilak and mathematician Bhaskaracharya II, whom they decided to celebrate," said Awhad.

In his speech, the finance minister said Bhaskaracharya II made significant contributions in the fields of mathematical and astronomical knowledge. "He stayed in Patan, Chalisgaon, erstwhile Vijjvalwid located in Sahyadri mountain Ranges. The government aims to establish an international standard Bhaskaracharya Ganit Nagari in his memory," he said.

When asked as to why was there was no mention of any memorial and monuments that the BJP announced before the elections, Mungantiwar said there was a provision of Rs100 crore for the Arabian sea memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He said since his last year's Budget speech was almost two hour long, he decided not to mention the ongoing projects.

A Shiv Sena MLA, requesting anonymity, said, "We are an alliance partner in the government but there is no reflection of our demands and policies in the Budget."

Meanwhile, the government made a Budgetary provision of Rs5 crore for the construction of a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial the Maharashtra. Also, in the memory of former home minister late RR Patil, an Aaba'an auditorium will be constructed in Sangli district, and Rs5 crore has been marked for the same.
