In one of the biggest seizures of high profile party drug — heroin in Mumbai, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai police has seized over four kilograms of heroin worth Rs 6 crore, by arresting a man from Rajasthan. The quantity of the seizure is higher than the total heroin seized by ANC in 2017, which was 3 kg. With this seizure, the total amount of drug seizure in the first four months of 2018 has surpassed last year’s total seizure.

This is the second case in which a native of Rajasthan has been arrested for smuggling the drug into Mumbai, indicating a cross-border and opium cultivation connection in drug smuggling.

The arrested accused has been identified as Mangilal Meghwal (40), a resident of Rajasthan’s Kota.

According to the police, they had received a specific input that a high-quality heroin is being smuggled into the city and the next consignment would be coming on Saturday. Following the tip-off, under the guidance of Shivdeep Lande, DCP ANC, the Bandra unit of ANC had laid the trap at Matunga west where Meghwal came with the drugs.

The ANC is now probing to ascertain the source of Heroin and the customer who was purchasing it. The police suspect that the drug might have brought from either cross-border or have been produced in Rajasthan itself, using the opium that is cultivated in the state.
