In order to curb the haphazard movement of traffic at Nagpada Junction, Mumbai Traffic Police has put up barricades at the spot. The move has ensured smoother movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Police have also removed illegal encroachments and stopped unauthorised parking at the junction, paving the way for suitable space for an island, a parking facility, and a taxi stand. As of now, temporary barricades block the road, but if it works out, then the police will request the BMC to set up permanent interventions.

The junction connects Bellasis Road, Maulana Azad (MA) Road, Mirza Ghalib Road, Sophia Zubeir Road, Dimtimkar Road and Duncan Road.

“The island at the intersection of MA Road and Bellasis Road does not have any footpath. Vehicles were parked haphazardly along this island on Bellasis Road, while pedestrians were forced to walk along the carriageway. This posed a great risk for them,” said a resident of Clare Road, which is close to the Nagpada Junction.

“At Nagpada Junction, we have put up some barricades to ensure smooth flow of traffic as it was very haphazard. Now, an island has been created, which was resulted in the smooth flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. As of now, the barricades are temporary. If it works out, then we will request the BMC to put up permanent barricades,” said Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police – Traffic.

“We are developing the junction and have begun by razing illegal encroachments. A taxi stand at the spot that was creating hindrance has also been shifted to a better and bigger place nearby,” said Ashok Dudhe, Deputy Commissioner of Police – Traffic (City).

“After we have put up the barricades, there has been an at least 50 per cent ease in traffic movement,” Dudhe added.
