Mumbai: ​Three die while cleaning septic tank at Malad

The Malwani police have booked two persons for causing the death due to negligence

In a shocking incident, three workers ​died ​​due to suffocation​ ​while cleaning a septic tank ​on Thursday morning ​in Malad West. The Malwani police have registered a case of negligence against the contractor and the house owner.

According to police, Maya Kashi​ (​24​)​ and Murtiram Harijan​ (​33​)​ died instantly inside the gutter at Ram mandir chawl at Marve road of Malad West​,​ ​while Kashiram Vishwanath​ (​45​)​ died during treatment at Shatabdi hopsital. The workers were asked by their contractor on behalf of the house owner to clean the drainage after the toilets were choked. 

"The three workers entered the septic tank and when they were cleaning​ it,​ died due to suffocation​.​ ​Their bodies were removed from the tank while the third person was rushed to the hospital for treatment but ​he did not survive", said a Malwani police officer.

"We have registered a case under section 304(A) (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against the contractor and the house owner who had asked him to bring the labourers to clean the septic tank", said  Dipak Phatangare, Senior Inspector, Malwani police station.

"We are yet to make the arrests in the case and are investigating further", said Phatangare.
