For the third consecutive day, the minimum temperature in Mumbai dropped. On Tuesday, the mercury dipped to the season's lowest at 11.9 degrees Celsius. In January 2013, Mumbai had recorded 10.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on Tuesday was 13.6 degrees Celsius, and 12.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Shubhangi Bhute, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai, said the dip in temperature can be attributed to winds blowing in from the north. "Mumbai is experiencing northerly winds at night. Owing to snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, these winds have caused the temperatures to dip. These winds are northeasterly during the day time, causing only a slight dip in day temperatures," Bhute said, adding that there were chances that the temperature could fall in a day.

The minimum temperature recorded at Santacruz on Thursday was 11.9 degrees Celsius. In Colaba, the minimum temperature was 16.5 degrees Celsius.

"We could feel the nip in the air on Tuesday. People who went to Sanjay Gandhi National Park for morning walks returned quicker than usual as they were not carrying jackets," said Nitin Rane, a Borivli resident who visits the park regularly.
