The Thane Police (rural) arrested four persons on Sunday in connection with the murder of journalist Raghavendra Dubey. Two prime witnesses, both waiters in the bar at Mira Road, tipped off the police about the whereabouts of the accused.

Dubey had gone to the Mira Road police station in connection with a case wherein three journalists — Santosh Mishra, Shashi Sharma and Anil Nautiyal — were assaulted by staffers of the White House bar when they were covering a raid conducted by the police there. They were assaulted in front of police officials conducting the raid.

After a case was lodged with the police in this regard, Dubey was called to the police station since he was friends with the journalists who were assaulted.

"After leaving the Mira Road police station around 4.30 am, Dubey got into an auto along with two waiters of a bar as they were his friends. They decided to eat something on their way back home. However, owner of the bar, Mahesh Shetty's henchmen chased them and waylaid the auto and killed Dubey," said a police officer from Mira road police station.

Shashi Sharma, one of the three reporters covering a police raid on the bar, talks about the assault by the staffers.

Sharma was present outside the White House Bar when journalist Raghvendra Dubey was brutally murdered. Sharma has sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by the bar staffers.

“After reaching the spot, Kamath, who runs the bar and is involved in a number of illegal activities, came with a glass of liquor in his hand and started hurling abuses. The staffers started to thrash me but I somehow managed to run away. Actually, these people were against me because I had already carried a sting operation at the Love Birds Bar before,” Sharma said.

Sharma claims that even though the police was aware of the furor at the bar, they failed to provide protection to Raghvendra Dubey.

"The staffers took away my gold chain, wallet and hit my head with a very heavy object apart from the brutal beating," recalls Sharma.

Sharma says that he received a call from Dubey at 5 am but he couldn't answer his phone as he was undergoing treatment. “The police themselves sent a message on the WhatsApp group informing about the incident but they failed to provide protection to Raghvendra instead,” Sharma said.
