Mumbai green corridor: Heart transported successfully from Vashi to Mulund

The Navi Mumbai, Vikhroli and Mulund police cleared the route, creating a green corridor.

After the successful heart transplant on August 3, another green corridor was created in Mumbai on Friday morning. The stretch from Vashi's MGM hopital to Fortis hospital in Mulund was made into a green corridor to allow for a heart transport. 

Navi Mumbai DP of Traffic police, Arvind Salvi said,"We were informed about a green corridor at the early hours around 6.30 am from MGM to Mulund Fortis. The Navi Mumbai police, traffic and beat marshals were deployed along with the coordination with Vikhroli and Mulund."

The Navi Mumbai, Vikhroli and Mulund police cleared the route, creating a green corridor. The journey to Mulund from Vashi normally takes more than an hour during the peak hours. On Friday, the 19 kilometer stretch was cleared in 14 minutes and 9 seconds. 

The donor, a 63-year-old senior citizen man, was declared brain dead in Vashi's MGM hospital on Thursday evening.  A spokesperson from the MGM hospital said, "The 63-year-old met with an accident on Tuesday evening between Chembur and Govandi and was admitted in MGM where he was declared brain dead last evening."

Kailash Chauhan, traffic police inspector of Mulund, said, "The donor donated his heart, cornea, kidney and liver. Around 10.30 am his heart was brought to Fortis."

Mr Sukhmeet Sandhu, Regional Director, Fortis Healthcare (Region - West & East), said, “It is extremely heartening to see the city’s second heart transplant in less than a week, and while the Organ Donation month long awareness activities are underway. I congratulate the medical teams and the Traffic authorities both at Vashi and Mulund for saving a valuable life." 

Dr S Narayani, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund said, “We want to further the cause of organ donation, by creating awareness and saving as many lives as possible. With more and more people coming forward to support the cause of organ donation, and with technology advancements to make this possible, many people waiting for a heart transplant can now hope that this becomes a reality”.  

Dr Anvay Mulay, Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “We have concluded the surgery, the patient is under continuous observation for the next 24-48years”.
