The residents of Ganeshwadi were shocked when they discovered that a puppy was blocking their water supply for 15 days. It was only after the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) water supply department dug up the pipe, they found a decomposed puppy's body inside the water pipeline.

For the last 15 days, the residents of Ganeshwadi, Jagtapwadi, Jarimari Nagar in Kalyan east were troubled by water shortage. "In the beginning, we thought there was a water cut by KDMC. But when 15 days we didn't receive water, we realised that it is not mere water cut and that it is a serious matter," said Avinash Kharse (name changed), a resident of Jagtapwadi.

The hassled residents then complained to their NCP corporator, Nilesh Shinde, who asked the water department to check if there was any blockage. On January 25, the KDMC workers reached the spot and did a washout of the pipeline. This pipeline supplies drinking water around 10,000 to 15,000 residents residing in two wards.

"To our horror, a decomposed puppy was flushed out of the pipeline. This is shocking as people drink this water," added Shinde.

When contacted MG Ardad, KDMC commissioner, he said he has ordered an inquiry into the matter. "We will find out what has gone wrong and if there is any dereliction of duty, then appropriate action will be taken against that person," added Ardad.
