Mumbai: ​Court clerk arrested for forging signature of judge to clear over 105 files

The MRA Marg police station on Friday arrested a court clerk, identified as Maruti Shankar Salunkhe​,​ associated with the 33rd Metropolitan Magistrates Court Ballard Pier​,​ for allegedly faking ​a ​judge's signature for ​clearing ​105 files of the court.

Speaking about the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police, zone 1, Manoj Kumar Sharma, said, “The accused has been with the court for over a decade now. He told us that he has signed over 105 files on behalf of the judge to clear them and forward the files quicker to the designated courts. When this came to the notice of the judge, his colleagues lodged a complaint with the MRA Marg police station. He was produced in the ​Esplanade court on Friday and has been remanded ​to police custody till February 20.”

Senior police inspector of MRA Marg police station​ ​Sukhlal Varpe said, “The reasons behind him doing the forgery needs to be sought from him. We have registered a complaint against him under section 465 (Punishment for forgery ) 466 (Forgery of record of Court or of public register), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) 471, (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.”
