Two years after some of its key statutory and governing bodies were dissolved, the University of Mumbai is set to get them back by August 2017. The university on Tuesday, announced the schedule for elections for these bodies.

The announcement came a few days after the government released the statues for the election process under the new Maharashtra Public Universities Act which came into effect from March 1.

With fresh elections in the next few days, several bodies like the senate and management council along with appointments to various important authorities like pro-vice chancellor, deans of various faculty, director (assessment and evaluation), elected members of senate, etc. would be streamlined.

Universities in the state have been functioning with ad-hoc bodies without any Act in place as the previous act was dissolved in August 2015. Important posts, including that of the pro-vice chancellor, deans of various faculty, director (assessment and evaluation), elected members of senate, etc, are lying vacant since 2015.

As per the statues, universities would have to create a separate portal on its official website for election related information and updates.
