Over 13,000 students who have scored 90 per cent and above will be competing for seats in the city's top colleges this year, the general merit list released on Tuesday has revealed. However, a large number of students whose names have featured in the list have entered their marks incorrectly, thus getting a merit rank which is not as per their actual marks.

As per the list, a total of 13,595 students who have applied for admissions to first year junior colleges in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have got 90 per cent and above. The number of students scoring a perfect 100 per cent are 14. As per officials, close to 1,000 students (which also includes the first rank holder) have wrongly entered their details thus securing incorrect ranks.

Officials said that the list was only on the basis of marks filled by students and will be rectified in the next two days. "For students who have passed Class X from MMR, their marks have been pre-recorded in the system. However, some students from outside MMR seem to have entered incorrect marks. These students will be allowed to make the corrections until July 6 and the changes will then be made in the list," said BB Chavan, Deputy Director of Education for the Mumbai region.

This year, students scoring 90 and above and applying for FYJC has dropped by 994 as compared to last year. Despite the drop, a large number of students continue to be in the 90s and above club thus making the competition for some of the top colleges in the city tougher. Science remained the top choice for students scoring 90 and above followed by commerce and arts.
