The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, South Mumbai penalised an authorised Nokia service centre and Microsoft mobile for failing to discharge proper services to one of their consumers. The forum has asked the service providers to cough up Rs 21,000 along with nine per cent interest from 2015. The forum has also asked the firm to pay an additional Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 towards the complainant's mental agony and litigation charges.

Jwalant Sampath, a resident of Nana Chowk, purchased a Nokia Lumia in 2013 for Rs 21,000. In December 2014, when the phone developed a snag, he sought rectification from Harmony Audio (Bombay) Private Ltd, the service providers, who as per the complainant damaged the phone further and quoted Rs 8,370 as the repair cost. Despite the phone being in its warranty period, the service providers refused to repair it. The complainant approached the consumer forum in 2015.

After going through the evidence, the forum held that there was a deficiency in service on the part of the service providers.
