Two best friends with a motive to earn money and live a lavish life chose to commit thefts, but their luck ran out after they mistakenly left a mobile recharge voucher after breaking into a mobile phone shop in Thane. The cops managed to track them down by the help of the serial numbers of the voucher, which they distributed among their friends as a token of gift.
The two accused best friends, Imran Qureshi, 20 and Mushtaq Qureshi, 19, are residents of Rabodi and knew each other since childhood. Soon, they decided to conduct burglaries and robberies to earn money and live a lavish life. They broke into a Archana mobile store on April 12 and decamped with cellphones, cash and mobile recharge vouchers. Valuables worth around Rs60,000 were stolen and the cops began to probe the incident.
"We conducted the panchnama and found a mobile recharge voucher, which was left behind. We checked the serial numbers of that voucher bunch and contacted the network service provider. We asked them to give us the details of the recharges done by the persons," said a police officer from Rabodi police station.
"Later, we traced down the persons who did the recharge on phone numbers and they informed that they got via different persons, as they took us to the accused. We arrested them and during investigation, they confessed," said SS Kesare, investigation officer, Rabodi police station.
The police have arrested them under sections 454 (house breaking),457 (house breaking at night), 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code. The duo will be produced the duo before Thane court and the police have recovered the valuables.
