The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday said that it has shortlisted two companies for civil construction of 32-km-long Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor and the construction work for the same will start by April 2018.

A MMRDA official said, “We have shortlisted two joint ventures (JV) that includes Tata Projects in JV with China Harbour Engineering Company and Reliance Infrastructure in JV with US based Astaldi Construction Company.”

“The civil construction contract will be awarded for around Rs 2,100 crore. Of the total four sections that are divided based on civil works, each JV will do two sections. The work order will be issued by mid March and construction work will start by April 2018,” the MMRDA official added.

Due to the construction of this Metro, motorists will have to experience long traffic snarls on Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg (LBS) due to commencement of civil construction work for Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor. Several lanes on both these major roads will be shut for Metro works.

Barricades will be installed on EEH for construction of Metro-4 corridor starting from Suman Nagar flyover entry on EEH in Chembur going up to Ghatkopar exit on EEH towards Garodia Nagar and going further towards LBS Marg.

The Rs 14,549 crore project is around 32-km long having a station at every 1-km. The six coach Metro-4 is estimated to take around 8.7 lakh commuters daily by 2022. This will decongest several roads connecting Mumbai and Thane and will also decrease the footfalls in suburban local trains.
