The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (MMRDA) executive committee on Tuesday approved the awarding of contract for two flyovers at Bandra's Kalanagar junction. Simplex Infrastructure will construct the first phase of the Kalanagar traffic improvement project.

This apart, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been appointed as consultant to execute two new metro lines - DN Nagar-Mankhurd and Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavli.

"In the first phase, two flyovers – one from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Bandra-Worli Sea Link and another from Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Bandra Kurla Complex – will be constructed and supported by a stilt road on government land. They will run from Dharavi to sea link. The other flyovers – one from BKC to Western Express Highway and another from Dharavi to Western Express Highway – will be implemented in the second phase," said MMRDA's metropolitan commissioner UPS Madan.

According to the contract, construction is being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 163.8 crore, as against the reserve price of Rs 153.70 crore estimated by MMRDA. Also, Padeco Co Ltd has been appointed as general consultant to monitor and supervise the design and construction of two elevated roads to clear traffic snarls at Bandra-Kurla Complex and Santacruz-Chembur junctions.

As part of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road Extension project, the consultant will supervise the construction of the elevated roads – the 1.3-km elevated road from MTNL junction (at Bandra Kurla Complex) to LBS flyover, which will traffic along Bandra-Kurla Complex, and the 3.89-km elevated road from Kurla (Kapadia Nagar) to Vakola near Western Express Highway, which will help decongest the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road junction at Ahmed Raza Chowk.

"The executive committee headed by chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya approved the appointment of DMRC as the interim consultant for the 23.6-km DN Nagar to Mandale (Mankhurd) Metro (2B corridor) and the 32-km Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavli Metro (4 corridors). The committee also approved the appointment of Ayesha Ingenieria Y Arquitectura S.A.U. as general consultants for the 16.5-km Andheri (East) to Dahisar (East) Metro (7 corridors) and the 23.6-km DN Nagar to Mandale Metro (2B corridors)," read a statement issued by the development authority.

DMRC will be preparing tender documents, will invite tenders and assist MMRDA in evaluating the tenders for Metro-2B and Metro-4 corridors.
