Local MLA and residents of Marine Drive have opposed the shifting of Marine Drive police station from its current address. The shifting will create difficult to access police station as it will be further shifted inside a bylane.

The Marine Drive police station at present stands on Dinshaw Vaccha Road, behind Yashodhan building which is in front of CCI Club in Churchgate. The new building is coming up behind the water pumping station. People who are monitoring construction on site said that the police station work is among the side works that is being done.

"Police stations should be on the main road. It should be clearly visible to people and they should have a sense of security while reaching there," Raj Purohit, local MLA told DNA.

In his letter to Chandrakant Patil, public works department minister, Purohit who has spelled the Marine Drive Police station as Marine Lines police station states: "A police station should be either on the main road or before a bylane so that it is easily accessible to people."

He further adds, "As the local MLA, I oppose the making of the new police station and want the old (present) location to be constructed with the help of a good architect.

The Marine Drive police station at present has a work force of 270 people. Officials at the police station said that they did not know about the issue.

"The police station is located close by and very easily accessible to residents. If this is shifted further away to a remote corner, it would cause inconvenience and may be difficult to locate," said Mahendra Hemdev, a resident of Marine Drive.

"We have been hearing for a long time that we will be going away. We do not know it yet," said Sunanda Shinde, who is among the families who shift homes along with the transfer of their officers. Her family was earlier living in the servant's quarter in Yashodhan building when officers who came in with their staff pushed them out.
