Nearly after a decade, MHADA has sent out offer letters to two housing societies, asking them to pay premium, so that they can be issued the No Objection Certificate to carry out redevelopment.

There are 56 colonies, located on MHADA land in different parts of the city, all old and dilapidated, and need urgent repair or redevelopment. However, after 2010, a change in policy by MHADA had brought the redevelopment of these buildings to a standstill.

In 2010, MHADA had come up with a policy that it shall issue NOCs to housing societies which will have to give certain percentage of the total housing stock that will come up after redevelopment. Before this, it would charge a premium to these housing societies to give the NOC for the redevelopment.

However, recently the state government overturned the decision and made it to "premium only for societies up to 4,000 sq.m".

After this, 25 housing societies approached Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority , of which it recently sent out offer letters to two housing societies.

There are 56 such colonies comprising of 3,071 buildings, accomodating 88,000 families, and are in a dilapidated state. An offer letter is sent out by MHADA to housing societies intimating the premium they have to pay to them for obtaining the NOC.
