Does Bollywood have the right to extend support to environmentalists for opposing metro rail car depot at Aarey Milk Colony? Well, a state official responded to Bollywood personalities by sharing a simple fact and displaying Bollywood’s double standards. Bollywood personalities who are extending support to environmentalists and activists to oppose Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro car depot at AareyMilk Colony are getting it back from the state official over twitter, thereby continuing the ongoing twitter war.
This time, the Twitter feud has claimed a victim – Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation’s (MMRC’s) Managing Director Ashwini Bhide who has deactivated her account. Director-Actor Farhan Akhtar had tweeted in favour of environment, “Urban development should include creating more green spaces, not getting rid of existing ones. #SaveAarey #SaveMumbai” and “Cutting down 2,400 trees to build a shed is not development. It should be a crime, in my humble opinion. #SaveAarey #SaveMumbai”
Similarly, musician Vishal Dadlani had retweeted a couple of messages extending support to environmentalists. One of the tweet was of television host Mini Mathur, who shared, “Vote to save Aarey please: it's Mumbais only lung !@roshanabbas” To all this support to save Aarey Milk Colony, just one message was shot from MMRC’s Executive Director (Planning) Ramana R twitter account - “#Bollywood you got 200 Ha of Forest Green cover before @MumbaiMetro3 got 30 Ha in Aarey colony. Think before UTweet against #Publicproject”
In a response to the celebrities supporting conservationist group including actress Dia Mirza, Ramana added, that the “state government gave 520 acres #SGNP Forest to #Filmcity None opposed then. Why oppose @MumbaiMetro3?” Apart from sharing that annually 3,600 people die commuting in suburban railway and Mumbai Metro 3 is a step to save some lives, he invited Bollywood stars to know more details about the project over a cup of tea as 12 lakh people per day will ride this metro in the first year (2020) itself.
“@Riteshd @FarOutAkhtar @VishalDadlani @deespeak #Bollywood You may have cars to ride. Don't deprive #commonman decent ride by @MumbaiMetro3,” stated Ramana over the micro-blogging site.
Earlier this month, DNA had reported on an argument has broken out on twitter between Aarey Milk Colony supporters and metro officials. Within a couple of days of the article, MMRC’s MD deactivated her micro-blogging account, which is yet to be restored.
