Belapur MLA Manda Mhatre on Saturday said the government resolution for 3 FSI will come out in January.

"The state government and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis are positive on additional FSI for Navi Mumbai and a GR giving FSI of 3 for Navi Mumbai will come out in January. We have informed the CM that FSI of 3 should be given to people so that they get bigger homes. Our main aim is to pass on the benefits of extra FSI to people and not to any developer, who are reportedly close to 'anyone'," Mhatre said during a media briefing at her Belapur home.

She added, "Secondly, in the remaining FSI, provision should be made to provide homes to economically weaker sections and lower income group people. The CM has also agreed to regularise homes of project-affected persons constructed out of need by giving them additional FSI. A formal decision will be taken soon."

According to Mhatre, Fadnavis is likely to fix a meeting to discuss FSI for Navi Mumbai and regularisation for homes of project affected during the winter session in Nagpur, which starts from December 8.

"Officials from Cidco and municipal corporation, too, will be present for the meeting. I want to do things in a transparent manner and so I am involving residents from the area as well," the Belapur MLA said.

Recently, Mhatre had held a meeting with occupants of Cidco-constructed structures in Vashi, which are in a dilapidated condition today. "We are batting for FSI of 3 for Navi Mumbai. This will help improve the city's infrastructure and we can have wider roads and proper parking facilities. Already, Vashi has become so congested," she had said then.

The matter has been pending for quite some time now due to political reasons, even as occupants of such structures continue to live under a shadow fear. No developer is willing to undertake redevelopment of such structures due to financially unviability.

On whether any feasibility study is being conducted as was done by civic body for 2.5 FSI, Mhatre said, "Cidco has developed the city and they know the details of the city. We need FSI of 3 for having good infrastructure. Also, we want Cidco to monitor the work of tendering, so that people are not cheated by any unscrupulous developer in the name of redevelopment."
