In a bid to gift his wife gold jewellery that forced 31-year-old Surender to target the engineering student Naresh Dadar at Tughlakabad in southeast Delhi on Saturday evening and kill him as he resisted a robbery bid. Surender had also roped in his close aide Sanjay (33), who needed money to pay his lawyer to get rid of a criminal case against him, and two rookies who were fascinated by crime.

Dadar, a resident of Trilokpuri, was attacked by four men when he and his girlfriend were sitting at a secluded DDA park near Tughlakabad. Dadar was returning after helping his father in their family construction business, he got a call from his girlfriend and went to meet her. As the four men targeted the duo, the woman surrendered with her valuables while Dadar chose to resist and faced brutal consequences.

The other two accused were identified as Pawan and Ram Babu, both first timers who wanted to enter the world of crime.

The murder, however, was solved within 24 hours under direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, southeast, Chinmoy Biswal and all four accused were arrested. Since there were no CCTV cameras in jungle area, more than 200 locals were questioned and some suspects were detained. Stringent questioning revealed involvement of Sanjay and Surender. Surender was the first one to be arrested and on his tip off, other three were also held following raids, Biswal said.

“Interrogation revealed that they all knew each other. On Saturday evening all of them were sitting on the top of Tughlakabad Fort when they saw Dadar and her friend entering the jungle area. Surender and Sanjay, who already have criminal background then planned to rob the couple with their two new associates. With knives in their hand, they approached the duo to rob them and stabbed Dadar as he tried to call help,” the DCP said.
