The DB Marg police have arrested a man, and are on the lookout for his accomplice for allegedly duping a diamond shop owner to the tune of Rs 1.33 crores worth of diamonds, on the pretext of selling it abroad for a higher price. The accused have been identified as Deven Zaveri and arrested accused as Pinal Shah.

According to police, Shah had befriended the complainant, and had introduced Zaveri as his brother-in-law who runs a diamond business in Dubai and other countries, and has built a Jain temple in Dubai. After gaining the trust of the complainant, Shah told the complainant that Zaveri can sell diamonds at a good rate. Zaveri took the diamonds from the victim on the pretext of selling it abroad. However, the accused neither returned money nor the diamonds even after two years, and did not respond to the victim's messages. On realising that he had been duped, the victim lodged a complaint at the police station. "After registering the case, we arrested Shah but Zaveri is not in India. We suspect Zaveri is in New Zealand and we are trying to trace him," said a police officer.
