The much-awaited event ‘Malad Masti’ was welcomed by residents of the suburb early Sunday morning. The event, organised by MLA Aslam Shaikh and Vision Foundation, saw cyclists, skaters, dancing groups and joggers occupy a 2.5-km stretch of the Mindspace road.

The Malad Masti incentive brought together the young and old alike in a fiesta of freedom from vehicles for three hours.

The event which started at 7am received an overwhelming response from toddlers to senior citizens. The street was chocked-full by various dancing and fitness groups who educated citizens for a healthy life. But for a group of 12 young skaters, Sunday morning was like a dream come true. They finally had smooth and open space to test their skills without fear of speeding vehicles.

“I couldn’t imagine that this road is completely free from Vehicles. People are usually  interested in action games like skating but a lack of basic infrastructure put skaters at risk” said Ravi Rao, 16-year-old skating enthusiast.

16 members from INS Hamla’s musical unit, which is located in Malad also performed for more than an hour. They performed on latest and classic Bollywood tunes and gained the maximum attention at the event. Dr Mukesh Gupta, a presenter host, said, “Our brave security forces who protect us from enemies and save our mother land are here to showcase their talent in music, let’s not miss this chance. We appreciate your talent and dedication.”

Citizens appreciated organisers for providing basic facilities like water, first aid, and portable toilets. More than 70 police officials were making arrangements for this event from 5 to 11 am and redirected vehicle traffic on other roads.

However, a few local citizens residing near Mindspace road complained about loud music played by dance groups on Malad Masti’s Facebook page.

Other events like yoga, live singing performance, drawing, nail art, badminton and volleyball were also organised. Organisers of Malad Masti are expecting more than 3000 participants for this free entry event on the next three Sundays.
