The state government is set to unveil five policies towards ensuring ease of doing business in Maharashtra during the Make in India Week in city starting February 13. The event has been organised with the aim to promote India as the most favoured destination for investment in the manufacturing sector.

Union minister of state (independent charge) for commerce and industries Nirmala Sitharaman and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced that the Make in India Week from February 13 to 18 would offer access, insights and opportunities to bring together global industry leaders, visionaries, academia and planners.

The state government will unveil the retail policy, electronic policy, single-window clearance initiative, port policy and a first-of-its-kind initiative for SC/ST businessmen and investors. Fadnavis said the department of industries' Maitri initiative provides all of its services with the help of a single online form. Out of the 8 lakh people who have applied through this, 99% have been provided with all the necessary permissions within the stipulated time frame, he added.

Lauding Fadnavis's efforts for organising the Make in India Week in such a short span of time, Sitharaman said that since manufacturers across the world are keen to bring down manufacturing costs, the Week would provide opportunities to all states, especially Maharashtra, in attracting investments. She added that it was an initiative for changing the mindset to bring new processes with governments as facilitators instead of regulators.

Maharashtra chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya said the seminars on cotton to cloth, innovations, MSMEs (medium and small enterprises), and Maharashtra investment seminars would cover all sectors and have all the national and international corporate leaders. He added that urban infrastructure, entertainment, and gaming industry, besides focus on start-ups, would be the highlight of the event.
