In a sarcastic comment, the Shiv Sena asked chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to listen to his wife and ensure that the price of daal and other essentials are brought under control.
Fadnavis' wife Amruta had spoken about the need to ensure that prices of tur daal were controlled and middlemen between the common consumers and farmers were eliminated.
An editorial on Friday in the Shiv Sena organ Saamna — which has party president Uddhav Thackeray as the editor and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut as the executive editor — said that despite raids on hoaders, price of tur daal had not fallen.
It also took a jibe at Fadnavis' stance that BJP workers will sell tur daal at Rs 100 per kg and added that "the people of Maharashtra are still awaiting this Rs 100 per kg tur daal,"
"For us, this is not an issue of competition. We feel that the common man should at least get daal rice," the editorial said, demanding that the 40,000 metric tons of seized tur daal should be distributed among people instead of letting it rot.
"If it is not going to make its way to the stomach of the people, then will it be distributed in memory of tribal children who lose their lives due to malnutrition in tribal padas (hamlets)?" the editorial questioned.
