Two paper vendors, an uncle-nephew duo, were killed in a tragic incident last Sunday when a speeding car rammed into their two-wheeler. Still in shock, the grieving wife of the older man spoke to dna, saying that the accused did not just kill two people, but wiped off the livelihood of an entire family in the matter of only a few seconds.

She added that the stall from which Heman Jadhav (43) and Sachin Pawar (23), the two victims, would sell newspapers is now just a structure that stands in memory of the deceased duo.

According to the Naupada police, Jadhav and Pawar, both residents of Paanchpakhadi in Thane, were on their way to the Thane paper depot on Sunday morning when the accused driver — Shekhar Itadkar — lost control of his Hyundai Verna (MH 04 FN 3330) and rammed into their. Pawar was killed on the spot, while Jadhav succumbed to his injuries the next day. The police said that the accused fled from the spot after the accident, without informing the cops about it.

Jadhav and Pawar were the only male members of the family of five who earned a living, by delivering newspapers to people in the locality.

Jadhav now leaves behind his disabled son Tushar (6) and daughter Bhakti (9), while his wife Harshada is seeking to start life afresh.

"I have no option now but to fight all the odds and work for my kids and family, who were completely dependent on my husband and Sachin. We feel that the accused did not just kill two people, but wiped off my entire family in a few seconds," Harshada said.

Malti Pawar, the younger victim's mother, too, is still in shock and cannot believe that her son is dead. "We have lost our family members due to the recklessness of one person and now our future, too, is in the dark," Malti, a senior citizen, said.

Harshada added: "My daughter repeatedly says that she is missing her dad and wants him back. I don't know what to say to her in reply."

Meanwhile, the paper stall that the uncle-nephew duo ran is now being used to dry clothes as no one in the family has the know-how to continue the newspaper distribution business.
