Kidnappers to be booked for attempt to murder, forgery

The Amboli police will add the sections of attempt to murder and forgery against the six persons held for allegedly kidnapping and demanding extortion from a 32-year-old Jogeshwari businessman's wife.

Bhavin Shah was allegedly kidnapped near the Ram Mandir railway station on October 31. A video was then sent to his wife, Hetal, demanding Rs 82 lakh.

The police arrested the mastermind, Mohd Shanu Shaikh and his associates Sandeep Sharma, Chitrabhan Singh, Anil Pandey, Dheeraj Singh and Mohammad Kabaadi, and recovered six cell phones, a car, Bhavin's debit cards, a pistol and three cartridges.

"The accused tried to kill the businessman, and the phone sim card purchased by the accused was procured by submitting bogus documents," said a senior Amboli police officer. "The accused claimed they got the pistol from Uttar Pradesh."

Bhavin told DNA, "If I would not have been rescued in time, I would have died due to the torture they put me through. They continually put my life in danger."
