Hotelier Vishal Kariya, who was arrested by the NM Joshi Marg police for allegedly harbouring wanted accused in Kamala Mills fire case, was granted bail on Monday by the Bhoiwada court.

Kariya is a known face in bollywood, cricket and political circles. He was booked under section 216 of the Indian Penal Code for harbouring the offender who has escaped from custody or whose apprehension has been ordered. Section 216 was added into the existing fire case after his arrest. It was alleged that Audi car of Abhijeet Mankar, one of the accused in Kamala Mill fire case, and co-owner of 1 Above was found from Kariya's possession.

"Kariya was granted bail by the Bhoiwada court on Monday," confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Virendra Mishra. Kariya, was arrested from his Juhu residence on January 9 after his name surfaced in the probe.

"Kariya s interrogation had led to the arrest of Jigar & Kripesh Sanghvi. It was Kariya who had tipped us that Sanghvi brothers would be arriving in Bandra to meet their lawyers after which the brothers were arrested," said an officer privy to the investigation.
