Around 10 lakh Jains have been reached out to via whatsapp and other mediums to fast for the better health of the senior most monk of the Jain community. Ninety seven year old, Tapagachadipati Premsuriswarji Maharajsaheb has been unwell for over a month now, suffering mainly from cough related ailments and old age.

The monk was moved to Saifee hospital on Saturday after his health deteriorated. The messages that were circulated asked Jains to perform Ayambil Tap for his better health. "For the fast, one has to have only boiled food that will not have oil, vegetables, ghee, milk or sweets only once during the day in one sitting," said Girish Jain, authorised spokesperson for the Jain monk's health.

The monk was earlier in Breach Candy hospital where several prominent leaders including Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray with several Sena ministers paid him a visit. "The message for fast has been sent to around 10-20 lakh Jains. A number of Sadhus also have groups and they too will be forwarding messages for people to fast. Samajik Puja will also be performed," said Shah.
