Many people across the city seem to be inspired by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) initiative creating contemporary artwork using dried rain trees as canvas. Many residents are taking the initiative further by colouring the dead barks in their respective areas.

The pilot project - art on tree - at the Shivaji Park ground is getting more interesting with various citizen groups, residential societies and youths queuing up to seek permission from the corporation to replicate it on other dead trees. According to the members of the Matunga Mitra Mandal, they fell in love with the concept after witnessing the lively artwork conceptualized on a dead rain tree at the Shivaji Park ground.

Speaking with iamin, Ulhas Telangur, a member said, "We have sought permission from the local ward office to colour trees in our areas as well. The dead bark is a sad sight to see but am sure people will love to catch a glimpse if it is turned into a piece of art."

Meanwhile, the concept has already started taking root in the western suburbs with the members of the Juhu Citizens Welfare Group painting couple of trees near Jamnabai High School in Juhu. "We got permission from BMC with assistance from local MLA Ameet Satam. The concept is unique. Many residents have approached us to carry out similar artwork in their areas as well," member Mehjabeen Barwani said.

Speaking to iamin, Tree Committee member of the BMC, Abbas Kapasi claimed that he was unaware of any such permission being granted. He said, "I am unaware of the committee giving any such permission. I shall check with the respective departments about this artwork initiative."
