Ward 60 in Versova, Andheri West is a tough battleground for two corporators Jyotsna Dighe from Congress and Shiv Sena's Yashodhar Phanse, who are pitted against each other. Both candidates have emerged victorious over the past three elections, and are now contesting their fourth civic elections against each other.

During their election campaign, both candidates have gone campainging door-to-door in the ward, joining their hands and touching the feet of elders to garner votes. While canvassing for votes in Bhudargad housing society, voters invited both candidates with sugar and ladoos.

This year, Dighe is the only female candidate contesting against male candidates. With just two party workers in tow, Dighe did not fail to impress residents with the fact that she was the only female candidate in the ward.

"Support women by voting for me. I need your votes to make this area a better ward. I have also given my contact number in our manifesto, if there is any civic issue, don't hesitate to contact me," said Dighe, sitting corporator in the ward, during the campaign.

Phanse, accompanied by 40 party workers armed with a mike, urged residents to cast their votes for the bow and arrow symbol, and asked them to step out in large numbers and vote on polling day.

"I believe in speaking to my voters by going to each house. The ward is not new to me since I have been living here for over a decade now. I know the issues which the residents are facing here," Phanse said.

While Phanse has contested elections in the past from ward 56, currently numbered as ward 59, Dighe has been contesting elections in ward 55, currently numbered as ward 60.

According to both the corporators, the changes in the area of the electoral ward will not make a difference. "I received an overwhelming response from voters in their homes, an area that is considered a vote bank for Shiv Sena," said Dighe.

In pamphlets circulated in the area, both candidates have made similar promises for a better future of residents, such as 24x7 water supply, convenient public transport, and improving street lighting to name a few.
