Heavy rains bring respite from heat

Mumbai continued to witness spurts of heavy rainfall accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning on Thursday evening that left several parts of the city waterlogged. As per officials from IMD, the city is likely to receive one or two more spells of rains over the next couple of days.

Water accumulated at several locations soon after the heavy rain began. To avoid major waterlogging, the BMC operated 29 de-watering pumps across the city. The maximum pumps, 16, were used at subways in western suburbs like Milan, Andheri, Khar and Poinsar. Traffic at Andheri subway to be diverted due to waterlogging. Shivaji Park near Dadar emerged as a new waterlogging location after Thursday's rainfall.

Temperatures on Thursday too increased compared to Wednesday. The maximum temperature recorded in Santacruz was 32.6 degree Celsius compared to 30.7 degree Celsius on Wednesday. "The rain is likely to reduce gradually and the temperatures will see an increase in the next few days," said an IMD official.
