Has the Common Management Aptitude Test been scrapped for the September session? This question is giving sleepless nights to lakhs of MBA aspirants who look forward to admission in B-schools next year. Around one lakh candidates register for the CMAT September exam which gives ticket to leading B-schools like JBIMS.

It's already August but the notification of the September exam (2016 first test) exam — which is usually issued by the first week of July — is yet to be released by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the competent authority for the exam. This has left the candidates fuming as the CMAT and AICTE websites have not put out any notice informing the anxious candidates about the reasons for the delay.

A Mumbai-based candidate said: "Either there is not going to be any CMAT this time or it has been stopped from being held in future. In any case, it's AICTE and MHRD's duty to put out a clarification which is still to come."

Candidates also pointed out the notification for CAT — the MBA entrance test conducted by IIMs — has already come out while the exam is in the month of November.

Interestingly, after working on ad-hoc basis since January when SS Mantha left the chairman post, the AICTE has recently appointed Anil Sahasrabudhe as the new chairman. Sahasrabudhe has been the director of the College of Engineering in Pune for years and is well-known as a good academic and administrator.

A professor from a Mumbai B-school says, "Despite getting the new chairman, AICTE has not woken up to release notification for CMAT 2016 (first test). This indicates only apathy at the top."

Efforts to contact the AICTE chairman turned futile.
