It was a certificate of handicap found on the murder spot which helped Mumbra police arrest the culprit. Now, the killer, Sukhram Sutar, is cooling his heels in the jail.

On September 29, 2015, Premkishan Ramkishan Potdar, was found dead at UNO apartment, MTNL compound, Mumbra. During investigation, cops found that the murder was a crime of passion.

Two bar girls – Rabiya and Chavna Lata – stayed in that apartment. Rabiya's husband, Buddha alias Ghulami, had gone to their native place for work. During that period, Rabiya had a relationship with Potdar who was from Uttar Pradesh.

Upon returning, he saw Rabiya in compromising position with Potdar. "Rabiya took a U-turn and alleged that Potdar was forcing himself on her," said inspector Ravindra Tayde from Mumbra. "Later Ghulami, Lata's husband Sukhram Sutar, attacked Potdar and killed him and fled," he added.

When cops reached the spot, they found a mobile number and a handicap certificate of Sutar which was of Ailanabad, zilla Sirsa, Haryana. They left for Ailanabad, but as the mobile was switched off they were not able to anything.

"Since the women were from Kolkata, our team reached there, but they had escaped. However, before leaving, they informed Sutar that cops are here," he said.

After two days, Sutar got the message that cops have left and he switched off his phone for half an hour. "We were still in Kolkata and traced his location to Barwala village, Haryana. We arrested him from there on March 7," he added.

Sutar was produced in Thane sessions court on Saturday and will remain in police custody for seven days. The other accused – Ghulami, Chavna Lata and Rabiya – are absconding.
