The AIU officials have claimed that Ali has admitted the possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the cash and a case has been registered against him under the relevant Customs Act.

In three separate cases, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials reportedly seized 694 grams gold worth around Rs 18 lakh, 65 assorted old & used i-phones provisionally valued at Rs 14.10 lakh and Rs 4.90 lakh in denomination of Rs 2000 notes from five passengers at the International Airport in Mumbai on Tuesday night. The seized gold was in the form of 6 gold bars, each weighing around 100 grams. The gold bars were concealed inside the batteries of a rechargeable LED torch. In another case the assorted old i-phones were smuggled in India from Johannesburg.
According to AIU officials, six gold bars were seized from a passenger Soraab Ali, hailing from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, who had arrived from Riyadh and was carrying the gold bars concealed under the batteries of a rechargeable LED torch.
"He was checked after his movements were found suspicious. He had gone to Riyadh to buy the gold and sell it in India." the official said.

In another case a passenger, Harun Rashid Iqbal Bhai Patel, who had arrived in Mumbai from Johannesburg on Tuesday night was found to be carrying 65 old iPhones worth around Rs 15 lakh that were being smuggled into India.
"Harun Rashid has admitted that he was smuggling the iPhones on behalf of Ayub Patel and in return Patel was going to pay him Rs 65 thousand," said the AIU officials
"Ayub and Harun Rashid are both Indians working in Johannesburg. While Harun works in a salon there, Ayub has a mobile shop. Ayub had told Harun to deliver the mobiles to Bharuch in Gujrat. The seized phones may have been stolen phones," said an AIU official.
Meanwhile, in another case, three passengers, Firoz Ahemad Iraqi, Abrar Ahemad Naik and Md Karan Ibrahim were intercepted by AIU officials while they were departing to Dubai from Mumbai International Airport. During a search of their baggage, Rs 4.9 lakh was found.
