Employees of a four-wheeler godown stole two cars from the company's godown in Bhiwandi. The matter came to light when the company conducted an audit and found two cars missing which were meant to be delivered.

The complainant, Mahesh Ahuja, owns a showroom of Maruti cars and the vehicles which are meant to be delivered to customers are kept in a godown in Golavli, Bhiwandi. Amol Jadhav works as the godown keeper.

Between October 2017 and April 2018, Jadhav along with the showroom's salesman Atul Nagarkar stole two red and black coloured cars, the Maruti Breeza ZDI Plus model, from the godown. The vehicles had arrived from Gurgaon, Haryana and each car was valued at Rs 9.48 lakh.

"Jadhav made an entry in the company's register that the cars had been taken to the showroom in Ulhasnagar but they were not," said investigating officer Vaman Suryavanshi, Kongaon police station, Bhiwandi.

Ahuja learned of the breach when an audit was done in April and found two cars whose delivery was not accounted for. He lodged a police complaint on April 9 and the duo was arrested under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention) and 408 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code.

"They confessed to the crime and said that the cars were used by them personally. We have recovered the cars from them," said Suryavanshi. The duo was produced in Thane court and remanded to judicial custody.

Last month, the Narpoli police, Bhiwandi arrested nine out of 12 employees of Amazon and courier service Delhivery.com. They had stolen 1,471 items worth Rs 1.53 crore which included expensive mobile phones and laptops from Delhivery's godown. The mobiles were to be delivered to Amazon customers who did not accept them due to unavailability or some other reason. Instead of returning the phones to Amazon, they were siphoned off and sold in Mumbai's Manish market.
