After Eknath Khadse's resignation, another BJP minister, Girish Mahajan, is likely to get into trouble for not mentioning a 4.97-acre piece of land under his name in his 2014 election affidavit.

Mahajan, who is the state's water resource minister, had bought this land at Mangaon in Jalgaon's Bhusawal in his name in 2002. dna has a copy of the 7/12 extract in which Mahajan's name has been mentioned. But when the minister's election affidavit for the state legislature assembly of 2004, 2009 and 2014 was checked, this property was found not to have been mentioned.

The land in Bhusawal has been sold at Rs20-25 lakh per acre.

When contacted, Mahajan was not available for comments. He did not reply to text messages either.

Mahajan is close to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who played a major role in ensuring that the water resource portfolio went to him.

Sachin Sawant, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson, demanded Mahajan's resignation for concealing the information about the Bhusawal land in the election affidavits. "Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis should clear his stand over this issue. Half of Fadnavis's ministry is corrupt and needs to be sacked immediately," Sawant said.

Sawant added that the election commission should immediately disqualify Mahajan for hiding the crucial information about the property. "Besides, the government should take back the salary and the allowances enjoyed by Mahajan as an MLA and minister. There is competition among the government's ministers to see who is more controversial and corrupt. This BJP-led government is one of the most corrupt governments in the history of India.

There are several charges levelled against them, but no strict action has been taken," Sawant said.

He further said that Mahajan is a controversial minister. "A few months ago, he said that he was offered a bribe of Rs100 crore to retain the tenders issued during the Congress-NCP regime. We had demanded names, but till today, he has neither revealed the truth nor spoken about facts. We had demanded that a narco test be conducted on him," said NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik.

Mahajan also landed in controversy for attending a school function armed with a revolver tucked in the pocket of his trousers. He was addressing an event attended by physically-challenged children in Jalgaon district.

After Khadse's resignation, it was believed that Mahajan would be promoted as a prominent OBC leader from Khandesh to fill the void left behind. However, this controversy will be a major setback.
