The ACB registered the FIR for their alleged misconduct in awarding the land for just Re1 per square metre.
The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday registered an FIR against former PWD minister and NCP leader Chaggan Bhujbal and five others for allegedly leasing out a piece of land to a private real estate company for 99 years for a meagre sum.
The ACB registered the FIR for their alleged misconduct in awarding the land for just Re1 per square metre. According to the ACB, the ex-minister and the other five accused identified as Gajanan Sawant, who was sub-divisional engineer (PWD) at the time, Harish Patil, who was the executive engineer, Anil Kumar Gaikwad, the then superintendent engineer as well as Sanjay Solanki and MH Shah, who were secretaries with the PWD, forged documents for the process of awarding the land to the private firm.
The ACB, on the orders from Bombay high court in December last year, initiated an open inquiry into the case. Finally, after finding enough evidence to register a case against Bhujbal and the others, registered the FIR. It has also come forward during the investigations that there were financial transaction of crores of rupees that were transferred to the account of Chaggan Bhujbal Public Welfare Foundation.
"We have collected enough evidence which points out to misuse of official position by the ex-minister and the officers. Based on this we have registered an FIR," said an officer from ACB.
"We have also found some transactions which were transferred by the real estate company to the foundation owned by Bhujbal. This amounts to bribe for the contract," he added.
The ACB registered the FIR under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.
