In yet another suicide attempt at the State Secretariat, a female farmer from Nasik tried to commit suicide in front of the Mantralaya on Friday.

Sakhubai Zalte, 65, was rushed to Saint George Hospital and she is currently out of danger. Sakhubai's land was allegedly grabbed by her relatives but her attempts to get justice at the local level fell on deaf ears. She has been fighting for her land since 1982. Sakhubai had gone to the police station at Chandwad in Nasik but the police did not take her complaint. At Mantralaya too she struggled to meet the right person.

She was accompanied by her 22-year-old son Ramkrishna Zalte. Sakhubai is suspected to have consumed poison mixed with cough syrup. However, the police are still investigating the matter.

"Farmers demands are falling on the deaf ears of the government. Farmers are in trouble. We request them not to end their lives but fight against the government. Opposition is with the farmers. We will try to get justice to them," said Ajit Pawar, senior NCP leader.

After Dharma Patil's suicide, this is the fifth such incident at the Mantralaya. A few days back, 45-year-old Harshal Raote, a convict in a murder case who was on furlough jumped from the fifth floor of the Mantralaya and died on the spot.
