According to an internal analysis prepared by the State Election Commission on various parameters, such as the number of candidates pitted against each other in each ward in the BMC elections today, there will be octogonal fights between eight candidates taking place in as many as 29 wards constituting the maximum number of similar fights. 

This is followed by 23 wards which will see 10 candidates battling it out, and 19 wards in which there are seven candidates.

While ward 164 — the boundrary of Kurla and Ghatkopar — has the highest number of candidates contesting for one seat, at 31 candidates, there are three wards where only three candidates are contesting namely ward 31- Kandivli West (Ekta Nagar, Neelkanth Nagar), ward 24- Kandivli East (Defence colony, Akurli, Thakur Complex) and ward 23- Kandivli East (Ryan International school — Poisar, Gaondevi).

There are also three candidates contesting for two wards each, namely Asgarhusain Shaikh, Tabrez Shaikh and Pravin Garje.

Interestingly, Out of total 2,275 candidates for the BMC elections, 388 are crorepatis. 

The internal report shows that 79.4 per cent contestants are below 50 years of age while 338 candidates are below the age of 30. 

Also, 42 per cent contestants are buisnessmen and 21 per cent are housewives, while 8 per cent of candidates have no occupation listed. 

SEC also found that out of 2,275 contesting candidates, 79 are freshers, 2,116 are contesting for second time and there are also 2 candidates are who are contesting for the seventh time.
