The case of gang-rape of a mentally challenged girl in Thane will be heard by a fast-track court, minister of state (home) Dr Ranjit Patil announced in the state assembly on Tuesday.
MLAs Mangesh Kudalkar, Amin Patel, Aslam Shaikh, Jitendra Awhad, Suresh Lad, Ganpat Gaikwad and Dr Balaji Kinikar had raised the issue of gang-rape of a 22-year-old mentally challenged girl on January 8, 2016, through a call attention motion.
Patil informed that the incident took place in Lokmanyanagar area, under the jurisdiction of the Vartak Nagar police. He said five persons kidnapped the girl and raped her in a house and in a pick-up tempo. The minister said all five suspects have been arrested and booked.
