FA firm accused in Balganga scam admitted to hospital

According to a source from the Thane anti-corruption bureau, Khatri complained of chest pain and blood pressure on August 28.

On Friday evening, Nisar Khatri of FA firm, which has been charged with fudging tender process in Balganga dam project, was admitted to hospital due to health reasons.

According to a source from the Thane anti-corruption bureau, Khatri complained of chest pain and blood pressure on August 28.

"He was taken to the civil hospital and some minor changes in his ECG were detected. He also had high blood pressure and thus, he was admitted to the hospital," he said. He refused to divulge any further details.

Khatri was arrested on August 25 after an FIR was lodged against him and 10 others, including six government officials in Balganga dam scam. Khatri and his family, who owns the FA Firm, was favoured by the officials of Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC) and was given the tender of Balganga. The firm was also charged with floating a fake firm RN Nayak from Hubli to reduce competition in the tender process.

The ACB also said KIDC officials in spite of being aware gave the tender to FA Firm. Thereby leading to financial irregularities up to Rs92.63 crores. Moreover, the KIDC officials used project design of Shai water project to be used in Balganga project.

After the FIR was lodged, ACB conducted raids at the home and office premises of the six KIDC officials – Girish Gopalrao Babar, Balasaheb Bhausaheb Patil, Ramchandra Dagdu Shinde, Anand Kalukhe, Rajesh Rithe and Vijay Kasat – charged in the scam. Among them, Balasaheb Patil has a two-storey bungalow in Kolhapur and Rs98 lakh in accounts. Even Ramchandra Shinde owns a flat worth Rs60 lakh in Pune, cash Rs18 lakh in various family members' names in banks and other properties.

Anand Kalukhe owns four flats and one shop in Kalyan worth Rs54.66 lakh and properties in Shahpur, Sangli and other areas.
