Ex-corporator commits suicide in Shivaji Nagar

The police also said that no suicide note was recovered from the spot. Her funeral was conducted in Govandi on Monday evening.

Former Samajwadi Party corporator, Noorjahan Rafique Shaikh, allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Shivaji Nagar at Govandi on Monday morning.

The police informed that Shaikh resided with her son and his wife. On Monday morning, her son broke open the door of Shaikh's room when she did not respond for long. On finding her hanging from the ceiling fan, the locals immediately informed the police and rushed her to the hospital. However, she was declared dead on arrival.

The police also said that no suicide note was recovered from the spot. Her funeral was conducted in Govandi on Monday evening.

"We recorded the statements of Shaikh's son to ascertain the cause of the step. However, there was no mention of any major issue for such an extreme step. Another relative revealed that her health was degrading she was also suffering from depression which can be a reason for her suicide. We have registered an Accidental Death Report in the matter and our probe is on," said a police officer from Shivaji Nagar police station.

The deceased was the corporator of ward number 134 twice before. Her daughter, Ayesha Shaikh, is now the corporator from the same constituency.
