Despite assurances by the officials from Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) that there was no plan to carry out any kind of constructions inside Maharashtra Nature Park (MNP), environmentalists want the State Government to not only take steps to protect this park but also ensure that this 41 acre 'urban wilderness' remains untouched by such so called 'development' plans.

On Wednesday even Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray visited MNP in the morning and promised nature lovers gathered there that he will take up the matter with Chief Minister and ensure this green lung remains untouched.
Meanwhile nature lovers have already planned to flood their objection letters to Chief Minister as well as the DRP and are busy asking Mumbaikars using social media to garner more support.

"We are asking people to send letters to CM as it will help the Government understand that Mumbaikars want these green lungs to be left unharmed and not part of any development plan that could risk it in future," said Aslam Saiyad a nature lover.

Recently even NGO Vanashakti had suggested that the best way to save MNP was to hand it over from MMRDA to the Forest department as a government notification identifies it as a protected forest.

This is not the first time MNP is witnessing protests. Earlier in 2015, several environmentalists raised flag against the proposed redevelopment of the park. Meanwhile several people who were involved in helping convert a dumping ground into a forest like environment activist Ulhas Rane said that it was intentional that MNP was not made to look like a garden but was planned to resemble a forest and today its biodiversity explains how the plan has been successful.
