After getting a clean chit by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday in Pune, former revenue minister Eknath Khadse will be brought back into the state cabinet either during Ganeshotsav or by Diwali. It is likely that a retired justice from the Bombay High Court will be asked to complete an inquiry into the alleged scam in Bhosari MIDC land in three months.

Sources said that instead of an inquiry under the commission of inquiry Act, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis would be appointing a retired HC judge for the probe. The inquiry will be conducted only on two issues and look into the aspects of whether the land is owned by the MIDC and whether the deal through which the land was sold is legal or not.

Khadse had resigned on June 4 after facing a number of allegations, including phone conversations with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Fadnavis had backed Khadse in public for the first time on Saturday during the two-day state executive meeting of the BJP in Pune. The CM had made it clear that there was no basis to the allegation of Khadse having spoken to Dawood over the phone and also that he was not involved in the Gajanan Patil bribe incident. Patil was arrested by the ACB and allegations were levelled against Khadse for demanding a bribe through Patil.

The much awaited cabinet expansion is likely to be effected by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the coming week, soon after the cabinet expansion at the Centre. Without giving any time frame for the same, Fadnavis said the BJP and Shiv Sena would have their ministers in the state cabinet as per the written agreement between both the parties. It was decided to have ministers in the proportion of elected MLAs, which two is to one, as the BJP has 122 and the Sena has 63 MLAs.
